Spinning is the core industry in the textile sector in Pakistan. Since Cotton is one of the major crops and Pakistan being the 4th largest cotton producer in the world, Spinning has always enjoyed the most important role. In the past Pakistan was spinning yarn ranging from Ne 6/1 to Ne 40/1. The main reason has been that the specifications of the local grown cotton do not allow yarns finer than Ne 40. However, since the last 8-10 years with a lot of imported cotton coming in with longer staple lengths, we have gone upto Ne 120/1 and even Ne 140/1 in 100% cotton yarn production.
